New Winter Paintings Series

Here are the first two paintings in my new Winter Paintings Series. Inspired by the colours of winter, I have tried to depict the beauty of a cold winter’s day – the crisp, frosty foliage, the icy water, the quality of the light, the shadows in the snow. In the depths of winter, although nature is at a standstill, it is still a very special time, and has it’s own particular beauty.

There is nothing better than a walk in a crisp, bright winter wonderland of heavy frost or snow. These sights always inspire me to get the paints out – and I take loads of photos to work from. I’m lucky to live in a rural area, near to a reservoir which always provides lots of painting ideas.

‘White Christmas’

These paintings are both in acrylics, which I find lend themselves well to the textures and shapes of a winter landscape. I will probably do another two or three to complete the series. (These paintings appear on the For Sale page, with details of sizes and prices). In the meantime, take care, keep warm, but above all keep safe and follow the COVID rules!!

‘Autumn Colours Series’, painting number 5

Hello again, and welcome to my blog!

As autumn turns to winter, I have now completed the ‘Autumn Colours Series’, with painting number 5. This one is called ‘AutumnSunlight’, painted in acrylic on stretched canvas, and measuring 40 x 30 cm. It is somewhat different in style, whilst still using the beautiful autumn colours that we all love. I think it shows how calm and serene an autumn day can be, with no wind and the sunlight shining on the water. Days like this are to be savoured before the duller light and colder temperatures of winter set in.

The trees are now mostly bare, and the weather has certainly taken a turn for the worst. Winter is definitely here – something I think many of us have not been looking forward to, especially given the difficult circumstances we are all living in at the moment. But at least we have Christmas to look forward to, even if it may not be quite as we would have hoped.

Don’t forget that an original painting makes a great Christmas gift. If you are thinking along those lines, check out my ‘For Sale’ page, where you will find the ‘Autumn Colours Series’ displayed with sizes and prices, along with many other works for sale. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in buying a painting. Prices are inclusive of carriage charges so there are no nasty surprises!

But now that winter is here, my thoughts have turned to what I am going to be painting next. I have already started on a winter scene, which will be featured in my next blog. Until then, stay safe, stay vigilant.

All the best everyone,

Autumn Colours Series

Here we are well into Autumn, the autumn colours are in full swing, the trees are losing their leaves, and we have the nights drawing in. To be honest, I’m a summer person, but autumn does have its compensations. A clear sunny autumn day is certainly a blessing, and the colours seem to be intensified when bathed in sunlight.
With this in mind, I decided to do a series of autumn colours paintings. I have now completed four pictures, all done in acrylics.

‘Autumn Fruits’
‘Autumn Woodland’
Autumn Leaves
Autumn gifts

I will probably do another two to complete the Autumn Colours Series. I haven’t totally decided on the subject matter yet, but hope to start number five next week. Watch this space! For details of size and price, see the For Sale page.

That’s all for today – Take care, stay safe, and enjoy what’s left of the autumn colours. Winter will be upon us before we know it!

With best wishes
